This Week in CHCACTivities
Last week, I attended the Workforce Development Learning Team meeting, hosted by Integrated Work, in Denver.
Approximately thirty representatives from Primary Care Associations (i.e., “PCAs,” organizations like CHCACT, which work with FQHCs) across the country attended this two-day conference to learn about issues like recruitment and retention, training and development for FQHCs.
On the first day, participants discussed workforce planning models – which encourage thinking strategically about how many positions the FQHCs across the state need to fill and how PCAs can support recruitment efforts.
On Day 2, we discussed “employment branding” strategies and learned about effective communication with different team members. During the conference, we discussed data analysis and metrics, such as turnover, tenure and the length of time it takes to fill positions. We also learned about how other states are implementing successful residency and clinical student rotation programs.

The staff at other PCAs are wonderful resources to share best practices and brainstorm ideas for new programs we can implement in Connecticut. Stay tuned to see how we implement some new ideas in workforce development!
